I wrote this blog for Fitmark to help readers stay on track with their fitness goals through the holidays. Adding an extra calorie burn in the morning can help counteract the average increase in consumption during this time of year. Enjoy!
The holidays can be a challenging time to stay focused and motivated on your fitness goals. I find some movement first thing in the morning sets up my day for success even if a crazy holiday schedule prevents me from my usual lifting session. Nothing better than a small circuit that can be performed anywhere to wake up your body and get the blood pumping. Body weight HIIT circuits are amazing because you don’t need a single piece of equipment. It is the ultimate no-excuses resistance training.
Start your day with this 20 minute HIIT. If you prefer fasted cardio work, have some BCAAs upon waking. Move on to the advanced option after November to kick things into high gear in December. You’ll be saying goodbye to 2015, but hello to your new fit physique come January 1st.
Body weight squat- 20 reps
Rear lunge- 10 each
Tricep push up- 15
Plank Jack- 15
Lateral lunge- 10 each
Plank to push-up- 10 reps
Rest one minute
Body weight jump squats
Explosive triceps push up (push completely off the ground, for even more- clap hands)
Pop up push- ups, begin on elbows and raise to hands simultaneously
Burpees with pushup and jump
Rest one minute
You may form an intermediate level circuit by advancing a single movement or two and working your way up to advanced.
Here’s a happy and healthy end to 2015 and getting off to a great start for the New Year!
